A Teachable Moment

"They may forget what you taught them, but they will never forget the way you make them feel." - Unknown

This quote rings so true in my life. I don't remember everything I learned in 4th grade, but what I do remember is how wonderful my teacher was! Mrs. Panetti was a beautiful, brunette woman who wore long skirts and big belts. She always let me eat lunch with my nose in a book, taught us about politics using a classroom election, and instilled bravery in me when I realized I would be moving and changing schools. 

The other day I was reading to my students from one of my favorites, 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny. There was a chapter about how students will stare at you and just watch everything you do. I always used to make a funny face or ask them to get back "on task." But, now I let them stare. This particular chapter taught me that those students who just gaze up at you are absorbing what you do and a little seed may be planted where a future teacher will bloom. I liked that.

I love what I do and am blessed daily by my students, their families, and the incredible staff I work with.
